01 / 04 · The screen

Virtual reality headset

The headset is the viewer and your phone is the screen. Slide an Android phone or iPhone into the cradle behind the front cover, and the lenses split the picture across a 120° field of view so it stops being a rectangle in front of you and becomes the room around you. Adjustable head and crown straps plus a padded face rest carry the weight, which is what lets you sit through a full feature instead of taking it off twenty minutes in.

02 / 04 · The sound

Cinematic headphones

Over-ear, closed-back and wireless, so the room genuinely disappears the moment the film starts. Deep padded cups seal around your ears rather than pressing on them, and the cushioned band spreads the load across the top of your head. Because they pair over Bluetooth there is no cable running down your shoulder to catch on the chair when you turn to look at something.

Android flash drive, 100 films loaded

A dual-headed OTG drive that plugs straight into an Android phone at one end and a standard USB port at the other. The 100 films are already on it, so there is nothing to download, no subscription to keep paying and no data to burn getting started. Unplug it and the whole library goes with you — to a friend's place, a long drive, or anywhere the network is unreliable.

Augmented reality photo-set decor

A set of printed panels you hang on the wall like ordinary art. Look at them through the headset and each one opens up: the printed scene becomes the level and your own room becomes the board, so the game is played in the space you are standing in. When nobody is playing they go back to being decor, which is the part that makes them worth wall space.

Setup

Get the app, then drop your phone in

The headset is the viewer — your phone is the screen. Two minutes from box to first film.

STEP 01

Download 5D Cinema

Install the free 5D Cinema app on the Android phone or iPhone you plan to watch on, and open it once before you put the headset on.

STEP 02

Slide your phone in

Open the front cover of the headset, seat your phone in the cradle so it sits centred behind the lenses, and close the cover.

STEP 03

Strap in and play

Adjust the head and crown straps, pair the Bluetooth headphones, then pick a film or look at your AR photo-sets to start a game.

One thing worth knowing: the flash drive in the box is an Android OTG drive, so it plugs into Android handsets directly. On iPhone, the 100 films load through the app instead.
